Every
May, REMODELING MAGAZINE inducts 50 remodeling companies into
their elite group “The Big 50”. These companies have set
the standard for professionalism and integrity through smart
marketing, exemplary business practices, unique design, and
extraordinary impact on their community or the industry at
large. Big50 remodelers run successful, growing companies of
various sizes that have taken the lead in raising the
standards of the industry.
The Big50 is a remodeling business
excellence award for best practices. Remodeling Magazine looks
for firms with “top-notch business acumen, outstanding
customer service, a financially strong foundation, and
exciting systems.
Almar
Building and Remodeling Co, is proud to be part of the Big50,
Class of 2005. Almar was started in 1959 by Gerald Quinn and
his partner. The company was named by combining the names of
each partner’s wife: ALMAR; AL (Alice) MAR (Mary). The name
stayed even after the partner left. In 1973 Terry Quinn,
Gerald’s son, took over the business. Terry’s experiences
over the last 30 years have helped him grow today’s Almar a
lean and profitable company.
In
the early 1980’s Terry decided
it was time to take a break
from running a business
so his wife could
go to Law School, and he could spend more time with his family.
Terry worked for 8 years for Harvey Industries
utilizing his construction and sales knowledge selling windows
and doors to contractors just like himself.
In 1990, during one of the Remodeling Industries slowest economies in recent
history, Terry decided it was time to put the tool belt back on and revive the Almar name.
Almar
has grown a lot since Terry went back into business, currently
with three field employees, his daughter Allison and
son-in-law Craig Guido on board. Both his daughter and
son-in-law are part owners. With Terry (second from the left)
handling sales and estimating, Almar closes approximately
three out of every 10 leads. Well-known in the community,
Almar has been called back to do new work on homes 30 years
after originally working on them. Customer loyalty at it’s
best!
Almar’s loyalty to its customers is evident in
the quality of the work, attention to detail during the
project development, completion and follow up, and in giving
back to the community by participating in the
American Lung
Association’s annual Asthma Walk, Project Bread, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the Dana Farber Marathon
Challenge.
