Hingham: Garage and Mudroom Addition
This 3-car garage addition with attached 
mudroom, half bath and laundry room was designed by Paulette O’Connell from OCO architecture::design in Hingham Mass. As part of a multi-phase renovation to this Hingham house the owners wanted to tear down the existing garage and add a large space with more modern amenities to fit the lifestyle with three small children.
The first step was to remove the exis
ting garage by cutting it away from the house. A steel beam was brought in as a ridge beam to support the new addition space. On the exterior a farmer’s porch with Azek decking and trim was added to the front of the house with a decorative arch in the center. The entire house was resided with pre-finished double coated wood shingles.
The mudroom with its custom built lockers and storage 
area was discussed with the owners. The goal was to create a space for each of the children to have for the coats school and sports bags. With white V-groove paneling on the walls, and doors were painted with an accent color to keep the room from being too white. The owners worked with an interior decorator (Ceilia Walker Design) to finalize the finishing touches with the tile selections, light fixtures, paint and décor.
The laundry room is equipped with a stacked washer/drier and the cabinets were added for extra storage and work space. And the half bath for the kids and guests.
