Scituate: Giving your Bathroom a Facelift: Shower Trends

Master Bath Scituate

Master Bath Scituate

In our last article we discussed how nothing dates a house more quickly than a bathroom that time has forgotten. Drab and outdated bathrooms can be dramatically revitalized. Bath products abound that can give you as lavish a bathroom as you could possibly want. Many homeowners’ want their bathrooms to be totally utilitarian, but others want rooms in which to be pampered.

At Almar depending on a client’s budget we are seeing client make design choices on both ends of the spectrum. We have recently done some small facelifts and some larger projects where we’ve created a spa like atmosphere with both showers and soaking tubs.

We asked our colleague Paulette O’Connell from OCO architecture::design what she sees in bathroom renovation design.

“As an architect, I work with a lot of families with young children looking to add additional space to their homes. The number one space on most of my client’s wish lists is master bedrooms with ensuite baths. During the schematic stage of design when we’re discussing the clients wants and needs, the most common question I’m asked is “Do I need a bathtub in my master bathroom or can I just have a custom shower. I don’t have time for baths.” My answer is as long as you have another bath somewhere in the home, design the master suite to meet your needs. In most cases it’s a glass enclosed walk in shower with a built-in bench and niches for shampoo and other toiletries. These amenities are integrated into the shower with tile or marble.

I’ve also had requests for dual shower heads, including a rain shower and a traditional hand held spray nozzle.   The newest trend is the curbless shower, which has a sleek linear floor drain hidden under the glass enclosure. It is both beautiful and functional, as it creates a continuous tile floor and an accessible shower for those who plan to age in place. With a shower like the ones above, who will ever want to take a bath again?”
