Award-Winning Deck Conversion to Screen Room in Norwell
Norwell, MA Exterior Renovations, Outdoor Living
Project Overview
When the homeowners realized they were missing a comfortable outdoor living space where they could truly relax and enjoy their surroundings, our team designed and built an inviting extension that blended seamlessly with the home’s architecture.
In collaboration with architect Heather from HRL Architects, we aimed to create an outdoor retreat where the family would genuinely want to spend time together—whether enjoying a quiet morning coffee, curling up with a good book while rain softly tapped against the roof, or simply relaxing and reconnecting with nature. Designed as a natural extension of the home, this new screened porch provides a comfortable space to slow down, unplug, and enjoy the outdoors year-round.

Challenges & Solutions
Challenge: Unpredictable Storm Season – Because construction commenced during a tumultuous storm season marked by heavy snowfall and strong winds, making it extremely difficult to adhere to the original project timeline.
Solution: Aside from thoroughly preparing and securing the job site for incoming severe weather, safety remained our highest priority. While the schedule had to be extended to protect both our crew and the home, clear communication kept the homeowners updated every step of the way until weather conditions permitted full progress.
Challenge: Complex Existing Roof lines – The home’s existing roof lines presented a unique structural and architectural design challenge. Every detail required precise planning to ensure the new addition looked like an original part of the house rather than an afterthought.
Solution: Working with the existing structure rather than against it. Through purposeful, collaborative design with HRL Architects, we created a seamless transition that harmonizes perfectly with the home’s original lines and aesthetic.

Almar is proud to be a Best of the South Shore Award winner, and so pleased to work on multiple projects with this family. Our team always works hard and strives to get better on every project. So being recognized by Qualified Remodeler Magazine for this project is very special to us all.
