Family Room Remodel in East Bridgewater

Almar was very excited to get a call from a past client to come and do more work on their home.  We had previously remodeled their bathroom and they asked us back to help with a family room remodel in East Bridgewater including an an existing screen porch.

The unfinished room has been built by the previous owner right off the kitchen and eating area but had never been finished. Since moving into the house, they had been using it as storage and a playroom area. As the kids have been getting older the need for more space, and a place where they could come together to enjoy quality family time has become more important.

Getting Started

Getting started the Almar team had to remove with an old wood burning stove they wanted to remove    and existing brick hearth and prepare the existing fireplace and chimney for installation of a new gas fired fireplace with tile surround.   We then build around the existing brick chimney and created a custom mantle for the new fireplace.

Storage

To create more storage Almar also created a custom built in shelves on one side of the fireplace, with cabinets on the bottom and bookshelves above, we were able to create functional storage and a place to display books and family treasured.

Opening it Up

By widen an existing door opening off the kitchen we were about to install new double glass door, allowing more light into the room and a view from the kitchen area into the new space. We also opened an exterior wall to allow for a sliding glass door, for access to the backyard and pool area. In addition, it creates even more light in the family room while providing bringing some nature inside via a great view of the beautifully landscaped yard.

Don’t forget the outside spaces

On the opposite side of the house in an existing screen porch, we just did a quick freshen up by removing a lattice ceiling to vault the existing porch ceiling and install new screen doors and a ceiling fan.   By elevating the ceiling, it allowed the screen room to be more inviting and comfortable to sit on those nice summer evenings but be protected from the summer bugs.
