As Seen In: A Modern Coastal Retreat in Hingham

We are thrilled to share that one of Almar’s recent transformations has been featured in the Spring 2026 Edition of South Shore Home Life and Style Magazine. This project represents the pinnacle of what a walk-out basement can become when thoughtful design meets expert craftsmanship.

Located in Hingham, the project focused on turning a traditional lower level into a sophisticated, multi-zone suite. The homeowners sought a space that didn’t just feel like an “extra room,” but a primary destination for both high-end entertaining and everyday family life.

The Vision

Guided by the creative eye of Anne Mahoney from Anne Lydia Design, our Project Manager Nolan and the Almar development team stripped away the “basement” feel. We began by removing a heavy, dated brick fireplace to open the floor plan. In its place, we crafted a walnut-slat feature wall—a modern architectural statement that uses hidden doors to conceal utility and storage rooms, keeping the living area’s lines clean and intentional

Bringing the Outside In

Because this is a walk-out property, light was our greatest asset. Using premium materials sourced from Cape Cod Lumber, we installed Andersen A-Series windows and doors. These selections were chosen specifically for their architectural accuracy and ability to bridge the gap between the cozy interior and the Hingham landscape.

Key Project Highlights:

  • A Dual-Bath Approach: We remodeled the existing bath and added an entirely new second bathroom. The designs range from a moody, sophisticated “Victory” bath with deep teal walls to a lighter, more whimsical space featuring a bobbin-frame mirror and custom vanity.
  • Custom Wet Bar: Crafted for the ultimate host, the new bar area features warm wood cabinetry and a beverage center, perfectly positioned for easy access from the lounge.
  • The Sleep Nook: To maximize functionality for the kids, we built a custom sleeping alcove with built-in shelving, creating a “room within a room” feel that feels both cozy and organized.

A Collaborative Success

This feature in South Shore Home Life and Style is a testament to the power of local collaboration. From the structural expertise of our development team to the curated finishes by Anne Lydia Design, every detail was tailored to the way these homeowners live.
