Hanover: Energy Tax credits available in 2013

Many people do not realize that there are still Energy Tax credits available in 2013. So we wanted to share some of the products that you could have installed in your home THIS year to reduce your energy usage and qualify for a Tax Credit.

According to The Energystar.gov website items included in the 2012-2013 Federal Tax Credit are broken down into three separate rebate categories. The main category includes many items that Almar’s clients call on us for including:

Biomass Stoves

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC)

 Insultion

  1. Adding adequate insulation is one of the most cost-effective home improvements that you can do.
  2. Requirements: Typical bulk insulation can qualify: batts, rills, blown in fiberglass, rigid boards, spray and pour in place insulation. Also as long as they come with a Manufacturers Certification Statement all products that seal air (reduce air leaks) can qualify:       Weather stripping, Spray foam in a can, (so long as it is designed to air seal), Caulking designed to air seal, & House wrap.

Roofs (Metal and Asphalt)

Shingle Inspection

Shingle Inspection

  1. Qualified roof products reflect more of the sun’s rays, which can lower roof surface temperature by up to 100F, decreasing the amount of heat transferred into your home.
  2.  “Metal roofs with appropriate pigmented coatings” and “asphalt roofs with appropriate cooling granules” that also meet ENERGY STAR requirements.

 Water Heaters (Non Solar)

  1. Electric Heat Pump Water Heater
Water heating can account for 14%–25% of the energy consumed in your home.
    Requirements: Energy Factor ≥ 2.0
  2. Gas, Oil, Propane Water Heater:
Water heating can account for 14%–25% of the energy consumed in your home.
Requirements: Energy Factor ≥ 0.82 OR a thermal efficiency of at least 90%

 Windows & DoorsHarvey_Vinyl-Replacement_Window_Hanover

  1. Energy efficient windows, doors and skylights can reduce energy bills.
  2.  Requirements: Must be ENERGY STAR qualified.
  3.  You do not have to replace all the windows/doors/skylights in your home to qualify. And it doesn’t need to be a replacement either – installing a new window where there wasn’t one previously (like in an addition) qualifies.

You can save 10% of cost up to $500 or a specific amount from $50–$300. The 2012-2013 credits in this category expire December 31, 2013 and must be an existing home & your principle residence. New construction and rentals do not qualify.
Almar’s team can help you choose the right products for your house that qualify for these Rebates. Just give us a call to discuss your options and schedule for getting started. More information can also be found online at http://EnergyStar.gov
