How do I Choose the Right Cabinets?

Have you been cooking a lot more the last few week? I know that we have been cooking more in our house! With limited options for eating out and being home more we have seen a lot more cooking and gardening shows, videos and instructions popping up.

Does spending more time working in your kitchen have you thinking that you need to make some changes? While Kitchen remodeling will increase the resale value of a home, right now I think it is important to all of us that we have a functional space that we love to create meals for our family.

Where to get started when selecting cabinets? Here are some quick tips to consider when planning your kitchen renovation:

Once a basic layout has been put together, we can start with your Cabinets as they are usually the most expensive item in a kitchen remodel. You have several different options depending on your budget and style including: Stock, Semi-Custom, or Custom. Framed Versus Frameless. Depending on the manufacture each of their lines has different upgrade options.

Stock, Semi-Custom, or Custom: Think of this as Good, Better, Best.

Stock Cabinets usually have the shortest wait time from ordering to arriving. Or you can find them already on the shelf at a Big Box Store. Quality ranges widely and features and sizes are also more limited.  So, check and make sure they have what you need and want for a cabinet.

Semi-Custom cabinets lets you choose different doors and drawer styles and finishes. They usually take anywhere from four to eight weeks for delivery.   There are many more features, options, sizes, and build qualities to choose from.   This is the most common level of cabinets we install.

Custom cabinets are one of a kind cabinet that are specifically designed and built for your exact space.  Features, design, and finishes are limitless, but your budget must also be limitless.  The cost for fully customized cabinets can be sometimes double or more of the cost of a Semi-Custom cabinet.  

Accessories & Hardware:

When you design and order cabinets you will not only be placing and laying out cabinets in your space, but you will be look at special features, accessories and hardware that you might want for your kitchen.  Cabinet types include base, wall, corner, peninsula corner, appliance garages, microwave cabinets, and pantry cabinets.  Within each of those types there can be a variety of accessories that can be designed and installed into each cabinet.

Accessory options could include:
Draws with cutlery/silverware trays
Bins (wastebasket, recycling, vegetable, etc)
Pull-out shelves
Cutting boards
Bread boxes
Spice rakes
Lazy Susan’s
Tilt-out trays (at sink front)
Plate and wine racks
Special shelving (opening and on inside face of cabinet doors)
Glass doors
Moldings and matching panels for appliances.
