Massachusetts: Made in the USA Day

usa-flagI was recently looking thru a woman’s magazine and saw in the calendar list that July 2, 2014 is officially National Made in the USA Day. And I thought “how great that is?!?!” As the nation struggles to continue to move forward from the recession that we should take a day to stop and think about companies and products that can promote more jobs at home.

So I started looking at some products that we often use here at Almar Building & Remodeling and thought you too would like to know what Home Improvement products are Made in the USA.

As a small family owned business it’s important to us that we promote good quality products, and it is an added bonus when those products are coming from companies also putting our friends and neighbors to work too.

CertainTeed a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain (A French Company) has earned a reputation as a premier building materials manufacturer for more than 100 years. For every part of the building, CertainTeed offers a quality line of roofing, vinyl siding, pvc trim, sheathing, fence, railing, decking, insulation, drywall and performance wallboards, and ceilings for both residential and commercial building applications.        They make some the roofing products right at their factory in Norwood, Mass.

Harvey Building Products. Headquartered in Waltham Mass. Harvey’s has manufactured their own windows for years. With manufacturing locations in Londonderry NH and N Dartmouth Mass. And warehouse locations from Maine thru Pennsylvania. The Almar team has been happy with their products, and customer service for decades. Harvey Building Products plays a strong role in the community in many ways, including providing building materials to help those in need. In early 2009, Harvey Building Products became a proud sponsor of Homes for our Troops, a non-profit organization that builds and retrofits homes for severely injured war veterans at no cost to the veterans or their families.

Huntwood Cabinetry: Headquartered in Liberty Lake, WA for over the past 21 years Huntwood has grown from an initial 11 employees to currently over 400. From a small community cabinet maker to the largest custom cabinet maker in the West – and ranked in the top 25 largest cabinetmakers in the United States. At their 567,000 square foot state of the art facility in Washington they create non-custom and custom cabinetry for the entire home. (Almar is a local dealer)

Tyvek House Wrap: Tyvek which is a registered trademark of Dupont (is headquartered in Wilmington Delaware, operates

Tyvek House wrap

worldwide) is a product that is designed to allow water vapor to pass thru it. As a house wrap it is used to provide a water barrier between the outer cladding of a structure and the framing, insulation etc…allowing water vapors to pass. Made that the Dupont plant in Spruance, VA which is currently DuPont’s largest manufacturing site in terms of both employment and capital investment. Other states with plants include West Virginia, Texas, New York, New Jersey and Alabama)

These are just a few of the many great Building Products that are made, or assembled in the USA. So while you are planning your next renovation consider not just working with a small family owned business, but asking for product recommendations that are also made in the USA.
