Facing Unforeseen Home Repairs? Here’s How to Get Through It Smoothly

Sometimes things happens that causes damage to your home and you need to remodel out of necessity rather than desire to improve the comfort and functionality. This can be incredibly stressful when you must deal with insurance agents, adjusters, banks/leaders, and contractors, all while feeling limited in what you can do to repair your home.  So how are insurance repairs handled?

Here’s how to navigate the process with less stress:

Luckily, there are ways to make the process smoother, working with a great team and knowing what to ask are two ways that can help. So here are somethings we commonly see and how the process can often work for our experience.

  1. For minor repairs, contact your insurance company directly.
  2. For major claims, consider hiring a public adjuster like Petrocelli (Norwell, MA) to advocate for you and ensure you receive everything you’re entitled to.

What is A Public Adjuster?

Public adjusters are independent professionals who work for YOU, the homeowner, after an insurance loss. They ensure fair compensation for damages.

Why Contractors Need Your Insurance Report:

When you are trying to determine how are Insurance Repairs Handled; from Almar Building & Remodeling’s end after we meet to look at the space to start putting together a scope of work, we will need a copy of your insurance report.

The report may include details missed during your walkthrough. This helps contractors create a comprehensive scope of work for your repairs. It also clarifies what your insurance covers to avoid surprises down the line.

Working with Almar (Your Contractor):

Once an initial scope of work is put together, we can work with your Public Adjuster to make sure that everything necessary has been included and priced for in a manner to make sure the insurance company will cover it. Often, we have seen homeowners accept payment from the insurance company before they go thru this process and then do not have enough funds to fully repair their home.
