All about Vinyl Replacement Windows.

Vinyl replacement windows are a good choice when replacing the older windows in your home because they are virtually maintenance-free and never need painting. We are hearing a lot about Energy Efficiency, but what exactly makes a product energy efficient?

Here are 3 things to consider when considering how efficient your new windows will be.

1. Multiple Panes of Glass

Two panes of glass with an air or gas-filled space in the middle, like Argon, insulate much better than a single pane of glass. There are even products on the market now that have three or more panes of glass for even greater energy efficiency, impact resistance, and sound insulation.

2. Low-E Glass

Low-emissivity is a special coating that reflects infrared light, keeping heat inside in the winter and outside in the summer. In addition to energy savings, Low-E also effectively reduces the amount of transmitted ultraviolet light, which can damage carpets, fabrics, and drapes.

3. Gas Fillings

You can get an option to have a gas fill between panes. Gas is much heavier than air, making it more difficult for warm or cold air to pass through. Options usually include argon, krypton, or other similar gases that are odorless, colorless, and nontoxic.

In Conclusion

Combining Low-E, Multiple panes of glass, and a gas-filled space is the best combination for optimal efficiency. Always choose a company (both manufacturer and installer) with a solid reputation and a history of standing behind its products. A good replacement window installation will include insulation around the new unit and stuff any old weight pockets with insulation. It won’t do you any good to spend all that money on new windows just to have the air leak through cracks and unfilled weight pockets.

Remember that not all replacement windows are the same. We believe you should understand these differences so you can make an informed decision when comparing windows and installer quotes.
