3 Tips to getting the remodeling process started

Have you been thinking about it, dreaming about it, and are you now ready to start planning a remodel on your home?  Is it time to start planning a kitchen, addition, bath, deck, or other project?

3 things to think about as you get started.

  • First you need to decide what type of contractor you want to work with on the project.   For most people, their home is their most valuable asset and entrusting it to the right company is very important.
    • A General Contractor
    • A Specialty Contractor
    • A Large corporate company
    • A Small local company
  • Understand the companies you reach out to. Some companies, like Almar, have a Production Manager who oversees all aspects of your project being built.  Having that person will help your project run much smoother.
  • What will the proposal documents include?
    • After you have met with a contractor getting back an estimate or budget for your project you want to make sure that you are comparing similar estimates.
    • Many contractors will just give you a 1-page proposal with little detail and a number, where other contractors will give you a much more detailed proposal that lists a scope of work with materials for the project.
    • While sometimes numbers may be quite different, you need to make sure that you are choosing the contractor that gives you the most details.
    • Having a lot of detail during the estimate process generally means that detail will also come through during the construction phase.

Making that first call to a contractor can be overwhelming but finding that company that you can trust your home too will make the process much easier.
