7 Steps to Planning a Remodeling Project

The task of taking on a remodeling project can feel daunting. Breaking up the planning process into steps is something you can do to save a lot of time and energy.

Figure out what you want your remodeled space to look like.

Something that we love to recommend is to have a rough idea of what the finished project will look like. Sometimes browsing Houzz or creating a Pinterest Board can help get your ideas out of your head and into something visual. This will help create a vocabulary for what you’re looking to get out of your home remodel.

Research General Contractors in the area.

We believe having a general contractor for your remodeling project is the most reliable and cost-efficient way to get your project done. Our team recommends asking around to family and friends for referrals from companies they’ve used in the past. We also recommend looking at these companies’ websites and social media presence to get a feel for the company’s bottom line. Find contractors that you feel align with your needs, call them, and set up a time for them to come and look at your space.

Create a budget.

Knowing how much money you can spend on a project will help move the project along and help you set sites on what contractor to use. Once you get all your estimates back, you’ll have all the information needed to choose the right team to work with for your remodeling project.

Choose an Interior Designer.

We love collaborating with interior designers, they help bring your vision to life. If this is an avenue you want to go down, finding the right interior designer for you will be the next step.

Make your Selections.

Selections are an important part of this process. Ordering your selections ahead of the project start date is important to make sure that all of your materials are on site when they’re needed. Some choices will have longer lead times and will take longer to come in. So, if you want anything specific… order well in advance. At Almar, you will work with Project Managers to help order these selections and measure. If you have an interior designer, they will help you choose these selections.

Learn the Project Timeline and any Specific Dates.
Knowing when certain parts of your remodel are going to be worked on can help with planning. Sometimes you’ll want to be out of the house during certain phases of remodeling. You might even have pets that need to be planned to be out of the house during certain times. Planning this can help lower the stress during the remodeling process.

Trust your General Contractor.
After all of the selections are made and you have scheduled all the times you might want to be out of the house, it’s time to sit back and let your contractor work their magic. This is a time where we will take care if everything. We will ensure subcontractors are on-site for different phases of the remodeling project. We will construct your project to the highest standard.
