Scituate: 3 Post Recession Kitchen and Bath Ideas.

By: Craig Guido, CS (Almar Building & Remodeling)

The last half dozen years have been hard on your house values and if you are like most people you have only repaired and remodeled the things that you needed to do. But things are changing.  House values are continuing to rise and heading back to where they were before the recession.  People are starting to think about either selling their homes or finally doing that remodel that they have been dreaming about for the past 6 years.

Here are some things to keep in mind while thinking about doing a kitchen or bathroom remodel on your home post-recession.

  1. Value. As it was before and has always been, Kitchens and Bathrooms give you your best return on investment.  If you are thinking about selling, having an updated kitchen or bath will help that potential buyer move on the sale. “People buying a house look first at kitchens and baths,” says Kermit Baker, director of the remodeling futures program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University. So think about the investment you make and how it can improve your home.

  2. Think about the features you want.  Most of the kitchens and bathrooms we remodel are very old and don’t have any features that today’s kitchens and baths can have.  Think about what kind of cabinet storage you want for your kitchen, or the amount of shelving you really need in your tub or shower.
    .
  3. Research!  In the years since the internet has come into almost every home, our clients have become more and more educated in what is available for them in their remodel.  As a contractor I welcome this, and think that it helps the homeowner make better and safer decisions for who is going to work on their home.   Not only can you research the ideas and products you are going to use on your remodel, but you can research the people that are going to be working on your home.  You should be able to easily find reviews and testimonials for your contractor on the internet, and if you can’t you should hire them!

As the economy continues to get better more and more people will begin to remodel and update their homes.  For most people the first rooms that they will tackle will be the bathroom and kitchens. These are just some things to keep in mind when you start to think about starting the process to remodel your home.  If you have more questions call Almar Building and Remodel at 781-826-2577.
