When embarking on a kitchen remodel there are many selections you can make. You have looked at cabinets you like, found the counter and backsplash you love. Recessed lights are the general lighting that will the overall lighting to your kitchen. Lights are usually spaced 5’ to 6’ apart. These lights usually follow the countertop layout.  If you ceiling is vaulted, you can also use directional recessed lights that will help you focus the lights to a certain area in your kitchen. 

The majority of recessed lights are LED lights that are either 4” or 5” and can give out more light than the old incandescent recessed fixtured of the past.  LED recessed lights can also be dimmable to allow you to set the “mood” of the lighting in the kitchen.  Recessed lights can also be used for task lighting over certain area like sinks and islands.  

Undercabinet lighting could be the most important decision you make for your kitchen.  While recessed lights can give you great overall general lighting, making the right decisions about under cabinet lights will help you with areas in the kitchen where you are working.  Making sure that you have the counter area lite correctly and evenly to allow you to see while you are working is important.

Decorative lighting might be the most enjoyable part of choosing the correct lighting for your kitchen.  Choosing pendant lighting for over your island or sink area is not only important for how it lights the area, but also how it looks for the finished production for your kitchen.  There are many options for light fixtures and design that can really help pull the kitchen design together.
