Braintree: Jake’s Journey

jake and familyAlmar is excited to have been asked to join Jake’s Journey. Jake is an amazing young man that was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) in March 2007.  Jake’s Journey was established to help raise money to offset expenses associated with Jake’s condition now, and in the next few years. Our Team will be working with Jake’s family to help give him an accessible bathroom, and other much needed work around the house.

In March 2011, the Parkers moved to a one-story house in Braintree with an open floor plan knowing Jake’s mobility limitations. He can easily get around most of the house in his wheelchair, and into his bedroom with no problem. Like most houses, the one space that is not accessible is the bathroom, particularly now that Jake lacks the strength to stand and has moved into his power wheelchair full-time. The door is not wide enough, and has a threshold that is difficult to get over. The layout does not leave enough room for turning a 5′ long wheelchair. The sink is tucked into a corner and impossible to use when seated in a wheelchair.  And, the toilet and tub are extremely difficult to access.

Inspired by one of Jake’s favorite shows, please enjoy the video at the link below to see what is needed to renovate their bathroom for Jake. And, please consider supporting Jake’s Home Improvement Project from his website.

Please LIKE Jake’s Journey on facebook, and follow the progress. We are encouraging our entire Almar family to join Jake’s Journey and help with this special project in any way you can.
