Is it worth it to remodel a bathroom?
Nothing dates a house more quickly than a bathroom that time has forgotten. Outdated bathrooms can be dramatically revitalized easily. I was recently looking at our kids bathroom and realized that it is functional but definitely in need of some work. It’s over 30 years old and maybe not as functional as it once was.
There are tons of products that can give you as functional or lavish a bathroom as you could possibly want. Many homeowners’ want their bathrooms to be totally utilitarian, but others want rooms in which to pamper themselves.
In 2019, on average, homeowners spend just over $20,000 on a midrange bathroom renovation project, and nearly $65,000 on an upscale bathroom renovation project. At resale, midrange renovations recoup 67.2% of their costs, while upscale renovations recoup 60.2%.
Remolding your current space is usually the least complicated and least expensive option. While the layout of your existing bathroom can be altered to some extent, moving major plumbing fixtures is the costliest aspect of a remodel.
If you’ve decided to remodel, start with an analysis of your existing bathroom:
- What is the condition of the sink, toilet, and tub/shower?
- Does the sink have vanity for storage?
- Does the sink have independent faucets?
- Does your tub include a shower?
- Think about reinforcing the walls, adding grab bars, and widening doors for visitors with physical disabilities or for your later years.
- Is your medicine cabinet small and outdated?
- How is the tile?
- If a wooden window is suffering the effects of humidity, it may be best to replace it.
- Many older bathrooms don’t have adequate ventilation.
- Are electrical outlets a problem? Do you have enough?
These are just a few of the questions to ask yourself as you start face-lifting or remodeling your bathroom. Our team will help you work through these questions and help create the design and feel that works best for your family’s lifestyle and budget.
